PAW PATROL - Holdun

Sadly, it only happens once a year, but it is special. Taking the grandchildren off for their first day of school is always memorable. Excitement mixed with nervousness is the order of the day, especially for the youngest, Holt, who is attending a new school. Thank goodness, his sister is in the classroom next door, as that will help and she is very good with her brother. The wonderful thing about being a grandparent is that you are both teacher and student at the same time. On the one hand, you are there to help, explain, encourage and comfort; on the other, you can learn as much from them – their curiosity, their endless questions, their video heroes and heroines, and their new friends. Their energy and curiosity is infectious and they, so far, enjoy spending time with their grandparents. I really had to have them explain to me all the characters in Paw Patrol, and who were their favourites. Ninja Turtles are not far behind in popularity. Children, with their TV shows and books, are a whole new world to us, the grandparents, and we love the experience of enjoying it with them.

Our job is to help them on their life’s journey, acting at times as guides, mentors, teachers, coaches and confidants. Neither Christa nor I have any idea how they will turn out, all we can hope for is that we were useful to some degree on their journey.
